Samarium is a silvery metal, belongs to lanthanide series. There is no free form in nature and most of them are found in minerals, such as monazite, cerite, gadolinite, etc. Four isotopes of samarium have been found in nature: 144Sm, 150Sm, 152Sm and 154Sm.
Samarium is widely used in alloy magnets in motors, guitars and headphones. Samarium oxide is an important catalyst for dehydration of ethanol and infrared absorbing glass.
